Jammu Tawi, September 24: Jammu Police and the Traffic Police have intensified action against modified silencers and unauthorised pressure horns following alleged unruly behaviour by some Bullet motorcycle riders during a rally organised by the Yuva Rajput Sabha in the city on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.
As part of the drive, police and traffic personnel set up checkpoints at several locations across Jammu city, with particular focus on Bullet motorcycles. Vehicles fitted with modified silencers, pressure horns and other devices producing excessive noise were checked and action was taken against violators as per the rules.
During the rally held on Wednesday, some motorcycle riders were allegedly seen creating loud explosive-like sounds from their Bullet motorcycles even in the presence of police personnel. Despite appeals by the Sabha president and other office-bearers to maintain discipline, some youths reportedly continued to create a ruckus across the city.
Police officials said some riders were also allegedly performing stunts in front of police personnel, causing inconvenience to the general public and other road users.
Officials said the enforcement drive had been intensified in view of complaints regarding modified silencers that produce extremely loud, cracker-like sounds, causing inconvenience to residents, particularly children, elderly persons and pedestrians.
Checking was conducted at several major intersections under the supervision of senior officers. DTI Sunil Singh, along with traffic and police personnel, inspected vehicles at various checkpoints and challans and other legal action were initiated against those found violating traffic regulations.
Police have warned that the drive against modified silencers and unauthorised pressure horns will continue across Jammu city and strict action will be taken against violators.
