Jammu Tawi, Sept 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory for September 28, 2026, covering the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other major routes. During the past 24 hours, traffic remained slow at Dawal in Udhampur and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather due to single-lane stretches and uneven road surfaces. Traffic was also affected by three vehicle breakdowns between Marog and Nachlana and the movement of nomadic livestock herds in the Banihal-Nachlana area.
According to the Traffic Police, subject to favorable weather and road conditions, passenger vehicles, private cars and goods carriers will be allowed to move in both directions on NH-44 on September 28. Drivers have been advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid wrong-side driving and overtaking.
Advisory Against Night Travel
In view of shooting stones, landslides, movement of nomadic herds and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, passengers and light motor vehicles have been advised to travel during the daytime. Unnecessary halts along the highway should also be avoided.
Special Arrangement for Oil and Gas Tankers
Due to widening work by the National Highways Authority of India in the Digdole-Khooni Nalla stretch, Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers will not be permitted to move through the area between 7 AM and 7 PM. Such tankers will be allowed beyond Chenani between 5 PM and 5 AM.
Timings Fixed for Other Routes
On the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag route, light vehicles will be allowed in both directions subject to favourable road and weather conditions and clearance from the concerned road agency. Traffic from Parana towards Anantnag will be allowed from 8 AM to 4 PM, while vehicles from Daksum towards Kishtwar will be permitted from 9 AM to 4 PM.
On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri route, light vehicles will be allowed in both directions during the prescribed timings, while heavy vehicles from Sonamarg towards Kargil will be permitted between 12 noon and 5 PM. Drivers have been advised to carry and use anti-skid chains where required.
On the Mughal Road, light vehicles and heavy vehicles with up to 10 tyres will be allowed in both directions within the prescribed timings, subject to favourable weather and road conditions and clearance from GREF.
