Jammu Tawi, Sept 23: The BJP on Wednesday announced new state in-charges and co-in-charges as part of a nationwide organizational reshuffle, naming senior leader Satish Poonia as the party’s in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir and Reena Kashyap of Himachal Pradesh as co-in-charge.
For the Union Territory of Ladakh, the BJP appointed Rajkumar Bhatia, a leader from Delhi, as its in-charge.
The appointments were announced by BJP president Nitin Nabin.
The party designated in-charges and co-in-charges for all 28 states and eight Union territories. Dr Punia will be replacing Tarun Chugh.
The organisational change in J&K was announced by the BJP high command after long deliberations over several names since the last couple of weeks, the party sources said.
Along with Poonia, Reena Kashyap has been appointed as the party’s co-in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir.
For BJP workers and supporters in Jammu and Kashmir, the appointments mark a change in the party’s organisational leadership as it prepares to focus on its activities and political outreach in the Union Territory.
Poonia has been appointed as new incharge of J&K BJP by the high command to expand its base with an eye on next Assembly elections.
Dr Poonia was also the most preferred candidate of the RSS, which pushed for his name, the party sources informed.
According to the party sources, Poonia is expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days following his appointment as J&K incharge of BJP.
During the visit, he is likely to interact with the party’s senior leaders and workers and review organisational activities in J&K, they said.
The BJP’s new J&K in-charge will also hold meetings with the party’s core group and other senior functionaries.
The discussions are expected to focus on the party’s organisational priorities and its roadmap for strengthening activities across the Union Territory.
Poonia, a former president of the Rajasthan BJP, has also served in other organisational responsibilities within the party.
His appointment brings a new organisational leadership arrangement for the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir.
The party has also assigned him responsibility for Punjab and Haryana, according to the organisational changes announced by the BJP.
The latest appointments are likely to be closely watched in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir as the BJP continues its organisational work across the Union Territory.
