Jammu Tawi, October 5: J&K Police Kathua sealed a medical shop in Billawar following action over alleged unauthorised possession and sale of habit-forming medicines.
Police said they received information by telephone regarding a suspected consignment of illicit medicines in the Billawar area. Acting promptly, a team from Police Station Billawar, along with the Drug Inspector, inspected the suspected consignment.
During the inspection, the team recovered 320 capsules of Pregabalin 300 mg from Mahajan Medical Agency located near SDH Billawar.
According to police, no valid bills or vouchers were produced in support of the medicines recovered from the premises. Police said the absence of supporting documents indicated a violation of the applicable legal requirements concerning the possession and sale of medicines.
Following the findings, the medical shop was sealed under Section 22(d) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
Kathua Police said action against unauthorised possession and sale of habit-forming and restricted medicines would continue. Medical shop owners have been advised to strictly follow the prescribed rules while purchasing, storing and selling medicines and to maintain proper records and supporting documents.
Police also appealed to the public to report any information regarding suspected illegal sale or possession of medicines to the concerned authorities.
The action is part of the district police’s efforts to prevent the misuse and unauthorised distribution of medicines and to ensure compliance with applicable drug-control regulations.
