J&K: Security Forces, Police Launch Multiple Search Operations In Poonch

MENDHAR/JAMMU, Oct 16: Security forces and police launched multiple search operations at four locations in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Friday to strengthen security and check possible terrorist movement in the border region, officials said.

The operations follow the killing of four suspected terrorists from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast across the Line of Control (LoC), opposite the Krishna Ghati sector, and the subsequent busting of a terrorist hideout in the Satharban forests earlier this week.

An automatic rifle, six hand grenades and ammunition were recovered from the hideout on Tuesday, officials said.

According to officials, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Gursai launched a search operation in the Gursai-Harooni-Baidhar area of Mendhar sub-division.

In another operation, the SOG Mendhar and the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles jointly searched Dharana village, Kashmir Mohalla, Behri forest and adjoining areas.

Meanwhile, the SOG Mankote launched a search operation in the Manglanu-Chilla forest areas falling under the jurisdiction of Mankote police post.

The operations are part of heightened security measures in the strategically sensitive border district amid concerns over possible terrorist movement and infiltration attempts.

Security forces are continuing their searches to detect suspicious movement and prevent any threat to peace and security in the region. (Agencies)
