JAMMU TAWI, SEPTEMBER 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party staged a major protest in Jammu on Wednesday against the National Conference-led government in Jammu and Kashmir, with BJP MP Jugal Kishore Sharma leading the political attack against the government.
A large number of BJP leaders and workers took to the streets, raising slogans against the NC government and questioning its handling of issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the protesters, Jugal Kishore Sharma strongly criticised the resolutions passed in the Legislative Assembly, particularly the resolution concerning autonomy. He alleged that BJP legislators were not given due treatment in the Assembly and were forcibly removed from the House when they raised objections.
Sharma also accused the government of diverting attention from pressing public issues and said that the BJP would oppose any move that, in its view, could revive the conditions associated with the turbulent period of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP MP further demanded that the government focus on issues directly affecting the people, particularly employment, electricity, water supply and the rights of different sections of society. He said that the promises made to the people during elections should be fulfilled instead of focusing primarily on political resolutions.
The protesters also accused the government of failing to adequately address the concerns of unemployed youth and other sections seeking their legitimate rights. At some places, BJP workers were also seen protesting by burning effigies of the government.
The BJP leadership said the party would continue to raise issues related to employment, public welfare and the rights of various sections of society.
The National Conference-led government had not issued a detailed response to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
