JAMMU Tawi, Oct 20: The official neglect in respect of patient care in Jammu region could well be gauged from the fact that despite the passage of more than seventy one (71) years, the region’s only Chest Diseases (CD) Hospital has so far not been able to acquire the much needed Ventilator in all these years.

Medical experts said that the Ventilator is of the utmost importance in the CD Hospital to treat the sick and serious patients suffering from various chest diseases, especially the ones suffering Tuberculosis in advanced stage.

The 140 bedded CD hospital at Jammu started functioning as an advanced TB Hospital in 1937 and was later converted into CD Hospital in 1955.

Presently, the CD has 10 wards, with ward 1 and 2 being the emergency ones. The sources said that sick patients admitted in the emergency wards of the CD Hospital often require Ventilator which sadly is not available in this hospital.

Such sick patients are shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in serious condition as there is no other option available for such patients.

Experts said that shifting the sick patients to GMC-Jammu from CD Hospital may sometimes be life threatening.

Sometimes, the attendants are being told to arrange Ventilator on their own. In this regard, the GMC-Jammu Principal said that the sick patients requiring to be put on Ventilator in CD Hospital are being shifted to GMC Jammu.

“The patients admitted in the CD Hospital needing to be put on Ventilator are being shifted to GMC-Jammu,” the GMC-Jammu Principal, Dr Ashutosh Gupta said, when contacted by the Northlines.

However, experts said that Ventilator is the basic requirement of the CD Hospital which has so far not been made available for the sick patients in this hospital in the last 71 years.

It may be mentioned here that the CT Scan Machine at CD Hospital has also been lying dysfunctional since the last 2 years thus adding to the woes of the patients.
