JAMMU, Oct 8: Two persons were killed and seven others injured when a Tata Sumo carrying nine people met with an accident on the Senabati-Chounthan Road in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir today.
Police officials said the accident occurred when the Sumo was travelling on the Senabati-Chounthan Road, leaving all nine occupants injured. The victims, all residents of Senabati village, were immediately shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Ukhral, with the help of locals and police personnel.
During treatment, one of the injured persons succumbed at PHC Ukhral, while the remaining eight were referred to higher medical facilities for further treatment. Another injured person later succumbed at GMC Jammu, taking the death toll to two.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said he spoke to Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan after learning about the accident involving the Tata Sumo at Senabati village in Tehsil Ukhral.
In a post on X, Singh said all nine persons travelling in the vehicle belonged to Senabati village and were shifted to the nearby PHC with the assistance of locals and police.
He said that besides the person who died at PHC Ukhral, two critically injured persons were referred from GMC Anantnag to SKIMS Soura, while two others at District Hospital Ramban were referred to GMC Jammu.
“Unfortunately, one person succumbed to injuries at GMC Jammu,” Singh said.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, the Union Minister said all possible assistance and medical aid were being provided to the injured. (Agencies)
