Jammu Tawi/Rajouri, October 3: Security forces have detained a 17-year-old girl from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) after she was intercepted near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Lam sector of Nowshera in Rajouri district.

According to officials, an Army patrol noticed the movement of a girl near the LoC fence in the sensitive Lam sector and subsequently detained her for questioning. The girl was identified as Samiya Azeem, daughter of Mohammad Azeem and a resident of Khuiretta in PoJK.

The Army conducted preliminary questioning at the spot before handing her over to Nowshera Police for further verification and investigation. During questioning, the girl reportedly told investigators that she had crossed the LoC inadvertently and entered the Indian side by mistake.

Security agencies are now examining the circumstances surrounding her crossing and are trying to establish whether it was genuinely accidental or whether there was any other reason behind her presence in Indian territory. Officials have not confirmed any ulterior motive or conspiracy at this stage.

Officials also said that no incriminating material was recovered from her possession. Police are verifying her identity and collecting information about the circumstances, route and manner in which she crossed into the Indian side.

Since the girl is reported to be 17 years old, further proceedings will be carried out in accordance with applicable legal and procedural requirements.
