Kathua Police have taken strict disciplinary action after a video allegedly showing a Special Police Officer (SPO) accepting ₹100 from a truck driver during naka-checking duty at the Lakhanpur Truck Terminal Point went viral.
As per Order No. 768/2026 dated September 28, 2026, issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Mohita Sharma, IPS, SPO Ameer-ul-Din, No. 582/SPO, has been disengaged from service with immediate effect.
According to the police order, the SPO was deployed on naka-checking duty at the Lakhanpur Truck Terminal Point on September 27. During the duty, Lakhanpur Police Station received a video clip through WhatsApp Messenger from an unidentified person. Police stated that in the purported viral video, SPO Ameer-ul-Din is allegedly seen demanding and accepting ₹100 from a truck driver.
Following the report, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, DAR/DPL Kathua, recommended the disengagement of the concerned SPO and a departmental inquiry against other personnel deployed at the naka.
Under the order, SPO Ameer-ul-Din has been removed from service with immediate effect and directed to deposit all issued uniform items, as well as any arms and ammunition issued to him, with the concerned authorities.
Meanwhile, departmental proceedings have also been ordered against HC Dhruv Singh, ASI Gyan Chand and SGCT Shamsher Singh for alleged dereliction of duty and for allegedly failing to report the suspected misconduct to their senior officers.
The departmental inquiry has been entrusted to the Superintendent of Police (Operations), Border and Kandi, Kathua.
The swift action by the Kathua Police leadership comes as a strong disciplinary response to the allegations and underscores the department’s stated emphasis on accountability, discipline and integrity during public-facing duties.
