Jammu Tawi, Sep 27: The people of Jammu are set to get relief from the parking and traffic-related problems near the ever-busy Jewel Chowk and its surrounding areas as the government has approved the construction of a multi-level car parking facility at an estimated cost of ₹29.88 crore.
The project has been administratively approved by the government with the objective of reducing traffic congestion, improving urban mobility and strengthening parking infrastructure in one of Jammu city’s important commercial areas.
The proposed facility is expected to provide a modern and organised parking arrangement, helping commuters avoid the difficulties caused by inadequate parking space in the area.
The sources said that this upcoming multi-level car parking will have the capacity of more than three (3) thousand vehicles. The upcoming parking will also be equipped with high resolution CCTV cameras to ensure security in the city.
According to the information available, the facility will help reduce the pressure created by vehicles parked along roads and improve traffic movement around Jewel Chowk and adjoining areas.
At present, unauthorised and unorganised parking along the major roads in Jammu, especially from Jewel Chowk and its adjoining areas, often reduces the effective road width thus leading to traffic congestion.
The availability of a dedicated multi-level parking facility is expected to provide motorists with an alternative and reduce the need to drive around in search of parking spaces.
The project is also expected to benefit shoppers and visitors to the commercial establishments around Jewel Chowk.
With more organised parking, commuters could save both time and fuel, while traffic movement in the area may become smoother and will be streamlined to a larger extent.
